Darke County is located on the western edge of Ohio (bordering Indiana), approximately halfway down the state. Primarily agricultural, there are a few wooded areas, grasslands, and wetlands (sometimes just flooded fields) left which host a number of species of birds (especially migrants passing through for short periods). Darke County Parks protects a number of interesting sites like Shawnee Prairie and Eidson Woods. The Darke County Birders keep track of interesting sightings throughout the year and meet regularly at the Shawnee Prairie nature center.
